Yay for Fun Day!

Although the rainy forecast forced us to pivot from an outdoor Field Day to an indoor Fun Day on Friday, students still had TONS of FUN! Toddler and Primary children enjoyed art and music activities, active games, tasty treats, and, best of all, permission to run indoors! Thank you to our Middle School students for helping the teachers guide the groups and supervise the stations. Lower Elementary students enjoyed indoor minute-to-win-it activities, jumbo yard games, face painting, popsicles, and more, while Upper Elementary and Middle School students went to Main Event for bowling, arcade games, a gravity ropes course, and laser tag! Thank you to Tiffany for organizing the day and to all those who helped make this a great end-of-year experience for our students!

Every other year, Springmont’s Middle School students participate in Future City, an international, hands-on STEM program designed to help them discover engineering and apply math and science concepts to real-world problems. Starting with the question - how can we make the world a better place? - students imagine, research, design, and build cities of the future that showcase their solution to a citywide sustainability issue. This year’s challenge is to create a floating city that keeps its citizens healthy and safe. In preparation for the January 25 Georgia regional competition, students have done research and written essays and are putting the final touches on their models and presentations ahead of the Q&A sessions with the judges, who are STEM professionals.

“Going Outs” are a unique part of Springmont’s Elementary program! Students are encouraged to pursue areas of interest which may include going out into the community for more in-depth exploration or additional resources. Yesterday, a handful of Upper Elementary students visited the Buford Highway Farmers Market with Spanish Teacher Anabel Brcek to buy ingredients for dishes they will prepare in class. In addition to learning and using new vocabulary words, these real-world experiences inspire responsibility and independence, and in this case, an appreciation for new foods and other cultures.
