Springmont Parent Association (SPA) Meeting - Sept 4

All parents/guardians are automatically members of the Springmont Parent Association (SPA) and are invited to join SPA Co-Chairs Mary Kamau, Kathleen Phelps, and Eva Spahn for our first SPA meeting of the school year. Agenda items will include the Springmont Festival & Montessori Mile planned for Oct 17, Springmont Fund brainstorming, and possible parent socials (Mahjong) and family events (Hawks game). There will also be time to ask questions and discuss future SPA meeting times and venues.

There is no need to RSVP, but we hope you will join us on Friday, September 4, beginning at 8:45 am in the Media Center.

In Springmont’s Elementary program, you won’t see rows of desks or teachers standing at the front of the room lecturing the whole class. Instead, teachers give lessons to small groups, and students complete follow-up work with classmates, often in pairs or small groups. Students see teachers as mentors, rather than authority figures, and they view classmates as team members, rather than competitors. On Friday, Toddler/Primary Division Head Anne Ledoux shared ideas about how parents can encourage their children to develop independence, a hallmark of Montessori education. Anne reminded us to prepare the environment and, even more importantly, ourselves, stepping back and giving children the time and space to master challenges independently. #Montessori #montessoriindependence #independence #independenttoddler #independentchildren
