Springmont is honored to have three students chosen as State of Georgia River of Words art winners - Jaynanth Gupta and Gabe Wolfersberger are Art Winners and Marina Santos (artwork pictured above) won the Dragonfly Award. The contest, open to K-12th grade students, is part of an international environmental art and poetry project begun in 1995 designed to nurture respect and understanding of our natural world. River of Words encourages students to learn more about their local watersheds and to create art and poetry as powerful communication tools for environmental awareness. The Dragonfly Award is a special annual award honoring Petey Giroux whose lifelong devotion to environmental protection, water education and wildlife as well as her legacy of creative environmental education programs still enhance the lives of Georgia's students. Springmont has participated in this contest for 10 years and is proud to have had at least one winner annually! Gabe, Jayantha and Marina will be honored on May 5 at the Dekalb Public Library in Decatur. Congratulations, artists!
