Please Join Us for Strategic Planning Listening Sessions

October 28, 2024
By Julie Strickland

As noted in Head of School Elizabeth Lener’s email last week, Springmont is undertaking a strategic planning process, which aims to ensure the collective aspirations of our community are realized and that the long-term financial and academic success and sustainability of the school are guaranteed for future generations of students.

One of the key elements of this process is the ongoing engagement of our stakeholders. Parents/guardians are invited to participate in the next phase of our information-gathering process by taking part in a listening session with our Triangle Associates consultants, Marc Frankel and Abbi DeLessio. This is an opportunity to share your perspectives and insights about what you believe to be most important for the long-term sustainability of Springmont, including areas of strength and improvement and initiatives on which the school should focus to ensure long-term success.

Please sign up for the session that works with your schedule and fits you best. If you have children in Toddler or Primary as well as Elementary or Middle School, please go to the session for Elementary and Middle School if possible. All sessions are in-person in the Media Center except for the November 18th Zoom.

  • Monday, Nov 11:  8:45-9:35 am Toddler/Primary Parent session (limited to 15 via sign up)
  • Monday, Nov 11: 4:20-5:10 pm Parent session for families who identify as being part of historically marginalized groups—and allies. This session provides a welcoming space to diverse perspectives and experiences as part of the Springmont strategic planning process. Contributing these voices is critical to the plan’s long-term success. (session limited to 15 via sign up)
  • Tuesday, Nov 12:  9:15-10:05 am Elementary/Middle School Parent session (limited to 15 via sign up). This session follows the SPA (Springmont Parent Association) meeting scheduled for 8:45–9:15 am.
  • Monday, Nov 18:  Open Parent session by Zoom 7–8 pm (pre-registration requested)

Please click the link in Springmont Weekly News by 3 pm on Friday, Nov 8, to select your preferred session. Many thanks in advance for your participation and for taking the time to share your insights and perspectives with us. Your partnership and support of this process is critical to its success, and we remain grateful for your engagement.

Alumni and alumni families have also been invited to a listening session via Zoom on Nov. 19. Please email info@springmont.com for more info.

Springmont's 2022-24 Impact Report

October 28, 2024
By Karen Poyser, Dir of Development & Alumni Relations

Dear Springmont Community,

As we move forward with our 2024-25 Springmont Fund Giving Campaign, it’s important to pause and reflect on the remarkable impact that you—our donors and friends—have made over the past two school years. As I mentioned during Opening Night, your generosity has been simply incredible.

You have shown up to volunteer for the Montessori Mile, Gardening Days, Field Day, and so many other moments in between. You have supported financial assistance through Apogee and given to our Springmont Fund. Over the last two years, we have brought back the annual auction, improved campus security with newly installed RFID doors, and increased communication with the installation of our digital sign, among other investments from the fund. Thank you for these gifts.

To acknowledge your financial contributions, we are thrilled to share our 2022-24 Springmont Impact Report, a detailed listing of donors who helped make many of our enhancements possible. We encourage you to take a moment to review the report and see the others who share your good company.

If you notice any misspellings, oversights, or concerns within the report, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. You can email kpoyser@springmont.com so that I can promptly address any corrections necessary.

Thank you once again for being an essential part of our community. We look forward to continuing this journey together as we strive to make the 2024-25 Springmont Fund Giving Campaign our most impactful yet, with 100% parent participation.  If you have not already made your gift to this year’s fund, please click here to make your donation today!

Many thanks,

Karen Poyser
Director of Development & Alumni Relations

Montessori Mile Race Results

October 28, 2024
By PE Teacher Tiffany Orem

Again, thank you to everyone who participated in the 29th annual Montessori Mile! Thanks to our generous sponsors, we were able to hire a timing company to officially clock the race. Click here for the race results based on those who ran OVER the mats at the finish line!

Unfortunately, because this was our first time utilizing chipped bibs, there were some hiccups. During set up and the races, some bystanders were too close to the mats, accidentally "clocking" times. Additionally, some runners did not cross the mats at the finish line, so their times were not "clocked." While there are some kinks to work out for next year, we now have a better idea of how to structure the finish chute to ensure this doesn't happen again. Apologies to those who do not see their name or time. We will make sure to do better next year!

Why I Support Apogee and the Springmont Fund!

October 21, 2024
By Will Johnson, Board Chair

As a Trustee and a parent of two stellar Springmont students, I want to share why I’m supporting Apogee and the Springmont Fund this year.

I am excited that this year’s Springmont Fund will help us buy another vehicle for improved student transportation and fund needed improvements to campus safety and the Landschool. The Apogee program allows me to direct my state tax dollars to Springmont - and get a state tax credit back for each and every dollar - and it makes the Springmont experience financially viable for more students.

I also want to be part of this school’s progress. Our goal is simple - 100% Springmont family participation. Even if you only contribute a little, I ask that you please give meaningfully and be part of this progress. 100% of families participating is an important signal that this community is strong, welcoming, and ready to provide excellence to future students. The great schools do it - and we are a great school! Let’s do this, friends.

Coffee with the Counselors - Nov 7!

October 21, 2024
By Julie Strickland

Please join School Counselors Ann and Katie for Coffee with the Counselors on Thursday, November 7th, beginning at 8:45 a.m.

November’s topic will be Justice and Belonging – supporting the process at Springmont and at home. Maria Montessori wisely said, “If we are among the men of good will who yearn for peace, we must lay the foundation for peace ourselves, by working for the social world of the child.” How are we, as adults, laying “the foundation of peace” here at Springmont and in our homes? What are effective strategies for building a sense of individual and community belongingness in our children?

Ann and Katie look forward to sharing strategies and discussing this big topic with parents and caregivers! Please note the change to Thursday morning, and remember you are welcome to bring other concerns and discussion topics to our gathering.

If you can, kindly click the link in Springmont Weekly News to RSVP by Wed, Nov 6, at 3 p.m. so that we can plan for seats and treats.

Thank you to our Sponsors!

In Remembrance

October 07, 2024
By Elizabeth Lener, Head of School

Dear Families,

October 7 marks the one-year anniversary of the Hamas attack on Jewish civilians in Israel. No matter your religion or politics, this marks a time of mourning and remembrance for those who have died and suffered as a result of that horrific event. Our hearts go out to those of you in our school community who were and continue to be impacted by this. We continue to hope for peace and safety for all in the region.

In Peace,

Elizabeth

Parenting for Academic Success Rescheduled for Oct 23!

October 07, 2024
By Julie Strickland

Many parents worry about their children’s academic success and look for ways to help them succeed in school. While Springmont supports your child’s academic and social/emotional growth during the school day, there are many ways families can also help outside the classroom, starting at home!

Primary parents/guardians are invited to Parenting for Academic Success on Wednesday, October 23, 4:30-5:30 p.m.  Join Destiny, Jeanie, Rebecca, and Rinku, who will share the keys to academic success and ideas about how you can help prepare your children to bloom, including:

  • How parents/guardians can help their children connect their minds to their bodies for fine and gross motor control.
  • How social skills promote positive relationships with peers, and how executive functioning leads to excelling in math and language.
  • Games you can play with your children to enhance the development of reading and writing skills as well as a mathematical mind.

Complimentary childcare is available 4:30-5:30 p.m. for currently enrolled Half Day & School Day Primary students via the RSVP form linked below. (All Day Primary students do not need to be pre-registered.)

  • Elementary & Middle School students may be registered for our fee-based Extended Day program.
  • Unfortunately, Toddlers and non-enrolled siblings cannot be accommodated.

Due to limited on-campus parking, we ask that each family bring just one vehicle to campus.

Kindly click the link in Springmont Weekly News to RSVP and reserve Primary childcare by 3 p.m. on Monday, October 21.

New Date for CommUNITY Dinner!

October 07, 2024
By Julie Strickland

Springmont's CommUNITY Dinner is a well-loved Springmont tradition and a unique opportunity for our whole community to gather together to enjoy a short musical program followed by a potluck-style dinner. For the past several years, we have held the event at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, which offers a large room with a stage and sound system, seating for 500, room for our buffet tables, and plenty of parking. Additionally, they do not require that we purchase food from their caterer, which has allowed us to continue our long-standing tradition of having families bring dishes to share.

Last week, Peachtree Road United Methodist Church (PRUMC) let us know that they could not accommodate Springmont’s CommUNITY Dinner on Feb 1 due to 100th-anniversary celebrations of their own. After contacting over a dozen other venues with no success, we have elected to return to PRUMC but must change the date to Saturday, February 22, 2025.  Please change the date on your calendars!
