Elementary & Middle School Strings Program

Springmont offers Strings instruction for Elementary & Middle School students! This program, included in tuition, takes place before school (7:30-8:15 a.m.) in the Fine Arts Cottage and is run by Music Teacher Stefanie Freinkel. Those interested should
email Stefanie indicating interest and instrument preference (violin, viola, or cello) no later than Monday, August 19.
Dear Parents,
When selecting an instrument, please don't overlook the beauty and importance of the viola and cello! String instruments all come in different sizes so there are very small violas and cellos for smaller hands. Anyone can play the cello, regardless of size.
Another thing to consider is that the viola is not just a large violin. The viola is similar to the violin, but its sound is deeper and more mellow. It is absolutely beautiful and very much in demand as an orchestral instrument. A student who excels at viola is much more likely to be a part of higher-level ensembles such as GA All-State Orchestra or the Atlanta Youth Symphony Orchestra than a student who is a violinist.
Of course, we love and welcome violinists, but I did want to put in my special plug for the instruments that are sometimes overlooked.
Warm regards,
Stefanie
- A schedule based on interest will be developed and shared, with once-weekly instruction beginning August 26.
- To ensure all participants make the most progress, Springmont's Strings Program has a strict attendance policy – students may not miss more than 3 sessions per semester.
- Springmont provides instruments and supplies, but students will be asked to provide their own all-black concert attire.
