Wow, our October waste diverted is up 82% over September's amount, which equates to 15 miles not driven and almost 4 tomatoes per Springmont family! One of Springmont's core values is Stewardship of the Environment, which means that we believe an understanding of the complex relationship between people and the earth is important to children’s knowledge of the environment. Springmont's composting program helps students develop an awareness of the natural world and each person's responsibility for it, inspiring them to become advocates for the world around them.

On Friday, parents joined students in Brenda’s class garden for an afternoon of fall planting. Gardening is an important part of Springmont’s curriculum, allowing students to learn about botany, measuring, responsibility, patience, and more! Thank you to the parents who generously gave the Gift of Time! Sharing school experiences is a great way to show children that the adults in their lives value them and their education.

Springmont has visitors! Thirteen four-legged weed eaters from Glitzy Goats have been hired to clear the weeds and brush from the retention area behind the Elementary building. Eating for about 16 hours a day, each goat can consume about 10 lbs. of vegetation daily. Not only is this method more environmentally friendly and in keeping with our core value, Stewardship of the Environment, but it’s also cost-effective!
