Announcing the Sandpaper Letter

The Sandpaper Letter is Springmont's new literary and art magazine! Middle School students, guided by Art Teacher Courtney Denis and Middle School Teacher Gretchen Stamps, will be compiling a magazine comprised of poems, short stories, essays and artwork created by students from all grade levels, including Toddler and Primary! The clever title was the brainchild of Middle School students who were discussing some of their first memories of Springmont. They recalled the sandpaper letters, an iconic Montessori Primary material, as a beautiful aid to their first experiences with writing. Members of this after-school club will be learning InDesign and Photoshop basics as well as editing and publishing skills. Look for the magazine in late spring!

It wouldn’t be spring at Springmont unless Elementary classrooms were home to baby chicks! Ellen’s Upper Elementary students, pictured here, are experts at ensuring these little ones have the food, water, and warmth they need. Students also make sure our flock is accustomed to human touch, helping them become friendly, intelligent, and sociable. In addition to learning how living things grow and change, students practice responsibility, patience, and empathy and gain a deeper appreciation for the world around them. Extraordinary!
