Safety at Springmont

Dear Springmont Families,
Thank you to everyone who came out for Opening Night last Thursday. The weather threatened, but didn’t dampen our fun! I hope you were able to meet new people and learn a bit more about your child’s teacher and class. Congrats to the Middle School for having the greatest percentage of parents sign in; the Middle School Teachers are the winners of the free Ordo lunch! If you missed the event, don't worry. You can connect with me and fellow parents at next Thursday’s Engage with Elizabeth & Springmont Parent Association(SPA) Meeting that will begin at 5 pm. You can also read about the guidelines and events in your child’s classroom in the letters from teachers emailed last week.
Safety Measures
On a totally different note, I want to review some of the things we do to keep people safe at Springmont. All of our external doors are locked, and entry is by RFID card. This summer, installation of our panic alarm system was completed. All classrooms and several additional areas are equipped with a system that can automatically call emergency services and lock all exterior doors should a potentially dangerous situation arise. We have several off-duty police officers who patrol our school at random times during the week. You may see them stationed near our entrance at arrival carpool. Lastly, we have protocols for and practice drills for many types of emergencies, including fire, tornado, shelter in place, and lockdown. These drills are practiced in as low-key a manner as possible to help reduce any potential student anxiety. We continue to look for ways to increase our safety while maintaining our student-centered Montessori environment.
With appreciation,
Elizabeth
