Professional Development, Celebrating Service, & Safety

Yesterday, for the first time in our school’s history, Springmont held an Employee Day at the Landschool! This day provided an opportunity for all employees to learn about the history of our second campus, tour the property, prepare food in our industrial kitchen, sing songs around the campfire, discover medicinal plants in the woods, and play outdoor games.
We also took time to recognize and thank our employees for their years of service to Springmont. Twenty-five of our employees have served the school between 1 and 5 years, seven have served 5-10 years, eight employees have served 10-15 years, six have been at Springmont for 15 -25 years, and one employee, Livia Osorio, has been at Springmont for over 25 years. Employees received specially designed commemorative pins featuring a Montessori material. For example, the Pink Tower, with its 10 cubes, was given to those who have reached the 10-year milestone.
While we were at the Landschool, several of us took time to reassess our safety and emergency protocols for that campus. We have contingency plans in place for fire, weather or medical emergencies, and lockdowns. Security and safety measures in place at the Landschool include a series of gates that are locked each night, locks on all lodge doors, fire extinguishers and fire alarms, a weather emergency radio, a landline phone, and extensive first aid supplies, including an AED and Stop the Bleed kits. Emergency 911 services are available, and urgent and emergency care is available approximately 20 minutes away. The nearest hospital is Atrium Floyd Medical Center in Rome, GA, which is 30 minutes away.
Our day was so perfect, we even had a rainbow appear around the sun! Thank you for supporting this day of professional development and community building! (Click here to see more photos on Facebook.)
