Notes on Transportation Safety

Dear Families,

Field Trips, Going Outs, and overnight trips to the Landschool are important parts of the Springmont experience once children reach the Elementary level. Safety is our top priority whenever we travel with your children. Here are some of the safety measures we have in place to accomplish this goal:

Maintain and inspect our vehicles on a regular basis.
Complete MVR driving screenings on every vehicle driver, every year.
Complete an orientation driving session with drivers new to our vehicles.
Ensure that everyone in the vehicle wears a seatbelt.
Refrain from using phones and other devices while driving, with the exception of using driving directions.
Refrain from transporting children in personal vehicles.

Earlier this week, Upper Elementary Teacher Thomson Chuites presented a lesson on fermentation to the Middle School Science class! Students learned about the different types of fermentation, heard about how and why they became part of food preservation techniques, and then sampled yogurt, kimchi, vinegars, and hot sauces, all fermented by Thomson’s class. Sharing expertise and exploring subject matter beyond textbooks is an essential part of the Springmont student experience. Look for the fermented items to be for sale at the Fermentation Lab Market at the Springmont Festival & Montessori Mile on October 18!
