Welcome to the 2022-23 School Year!
“We can only better humanity through the child.” Maria Montessori, The London Lectures
Dear Parents,
Maria Montessori recognized the innate power within children to transform the world. Having studied both the natural and psychic development of the child, she believed the child needed to be elevated in society and that the mission of education “was not to merely transmit knowledge, but to take care of this life which has the possibility of bettering all life.” She refers to the teacher as “the servant of nature.” As parents, we are partners in this service. Often this is a humbling experience as it requires us to set aside our own experiences, schedule, expectations, and priorities to understand and cultivate the unique gifts within our children. As we prepare to begin a new school year, I challenge you to examine how you serve your own child(ren). Do you recognize this potential in them to “better all life”? Are you willing to set aside your expectations of them and instead observe, listen, and follow their lead? We look forward to partnering with you in the coming year to serve your children and follow their lead as together we carry out our mission “to nurture self-directed, resilient, and aware human beings who contribute substance to the world.”
I wish you all the best and look forward to a wonderful year serving your children.

Springmont Parent Association (SPA) News
Parents Elizabeth Keromytis and Kristin Maiwand have graciously accepted the role of SPA Co-Chairs for the 2022-23 school year! They look forward to helping our parent community make connections with the school and each other and will work closely with the administration to make sure the school has the volunteers it needs for our community events. We hope all parents will become involved and consider chairing an event!
SPA holds monthly meetings - the dates are noted on the school calendar on our website, and reminders are included in Springmont's weekly email newsletter. If you are eager to get involved, there are two things you can do now:
- Join our Springmont Parent Association Slack Channel – We use this platform to stay organized and communicate between meetings. See the link in Springmont Weekly News!
- Follow the Springmont Parent Association Facebook page - This Facebook page is not affiliated with the official Springmont Facebook page but is a forum where parents can connect, share resources, ask questions, etc.
Pizza Shop and Yay Lunch!
We are happy to let parents know that Springmont now offers optional lunch programs Monday-Friday for ALL students (Toddler - Middle School) who eat lunch on campus!
Pizza Shop, part of the Middle School micro-economy curriculum, is offered to students and staff as our Monday lunch delivery option. Funds raised are used for Middle School class activities, including their annual End-of-Year Trip. Pizza Shop begins August 15, and fall 2022 orders are due by 3 p.m. Friday, August 5, 2022. (Orders received after this time incur a $15 per student late fee.) Please note that Pizza Shop does not include side items such as fruits or vegetables. Parents are welcome to supplement Pizza Shop orders with items sent from home each Monday. Click here for additional information, delivery dates, pricing for cheese or pepperoni slices, and Fall Semester or Academic Year ordering information.

Meet & Greet - August 5
We are delighted to invite new, move-up, and returning students and their families to come to campus on Friday, August 5, to say hello to faculty and staff, take a peek inside classrooms, and shop the Spirit Store! Families will also be able to meet our Art, Music, PE, and Outdoor Science Education Teachers as well as our Springmont Parent Association Chairs who will have information about parent volunteer opportunities. Additional information about Enrichment, Pizza Shop, and Yay Lunch! will be available along with carpool signs and carpool information. Finally, parents won't want to miss taking a #loveourschool photo for social media, and children can look forward to selecting an item from our Treasure Chest!
Due to parking constraints, each family was invited to attend during a one-hour time slot. We ask that families bring just ONE vehicle to campus, arriving and departing within their assigned hour.
Back to School Nights - Aug 15-18
Back to School Nights offer parents level-by-level opportunities to spend time with their child(ren)'s Teacher(s) in classrooms!
- Primary Back to School Night - Monday, August 15, 4:30-6 p.m.
- Upper Elementary Back to School Night - Tuesday, August 16, 4:30-6 p.m.
- Lower Elementary Back to School Night - Wednesday, August 17, 4:30-6 p.m.
- Toddler Back to School Night - Thursday, August 18, 4:30-6 p.m.
- Middle School Back to School Night - Thursday, August 18, 4:30-6 p.m.
In addition to providing an opportunity to connect with teachers and parents, the benefits of our level-by-level, late-afternoon format include on-campus parking, avoiding rush hour traffic, and being home in time for dinner and bedtime. Teachers are happy that parents with students at other levels will not have to miss one presentation in favor of another and that they, too, will be home at a reasonable hour, ensuring they are refreshed and ready to teach their students the next morning!
Water and assorted snacks for parents will be available in each classroom.
Complimentary childcare for students enrolled at Springmont will be provided 4:30-6:00 p.m. on their academic level's dedicated Back to School Night only. All students should have their reusable water bottles with them and will be offered a light snack.
- Toddler & Primary Half Day and School Day students should be picked up at their regular dismissal times and may return to campus at 4:30 on their dedicated Back to School Night.
- All Day students may remain on campus until 6:00 pm as usual.
- Elementary & Middle School students may be picked up at their regular dismissal times OR be enrolled in Extended Day until 4:30 but will rejoin their classmates 4:30-6:00 on their dedicated Back to School Night.
