International Night is this Saturday!

All families are encouraged to join us on Saturday, February 1 at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Buckhead. Plan to arrive by 4:15 in order to be seated for the musical program that begins promptly at 4:30 p.m.
What is International Night? International Night is Springmont’s special celebration of our school’s diversity and the lives and cultures of people around the world. If you have cultural attire, we encourage you to wear it for this event!
After the musical program, Songs for One World, everyone is invited to sample dishes from around the world prepared (or purchased) by each Springmont family, representing a country/culture of their choice. Served buffet-style, this may be the largest potluck you have ever attended!
Where is International Night? This event is held off-campus at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church (3180 Peachtree Rd.). There is plenty of parking (please use the BLUE lot), but please plan to arrive no later than 4:15 to drop off your dish and be seated before the program begins promptly at 4:30 p.m.
What type of food should I bring? What if I don’t have time to cook? Bring a family favorite or a dish from your ethnic background or favorite country. Pans and food labels will be sent home with your child on Thursday, January 30. Please bring your dish in the pan provided and at the temperature (hot or cold) at which it is to be served. Please complete and bring the provided food label but do not affix it - we will do that at the event. Desserts and water will be provided by Springmont, so please bring entrees, appetizers, side dishes and/or salads. If you are bringing extended family, we are happy to provide an additional pan and label. You are welcome to purchase food. Please fill your tray with whatever you like.
NEW initiative this year! In keeping with our school's core value Stewardship of the Environment and the theme of this year's event, IMPACT (Springmont's parent organization) is asking families to consider bringing their own re-usable eating utensils, plates and cups/water bottles. Bringing these items (and taking them home to wash and re-use afterward) is the most practical way to significantly reduce the amount of plastic waste generated by a community event of this size. Look for a flyer from IMPACT with more information along with your pan on Thursday!
IMPACT will also have the Spirit Store open! Look for t-shirts, hats, children's vests, and our new adult fleece pullovers! Credit cards, checks and cash accepted.
Put your Georgia Taxes to work for Springmont!

A benefit available to you as a Georgia taxpayer allows you to redirect a portion of your tax liability to support financial aid at Springmont through the Georgia Private School Tax Credit Program. There are still $18 million in tax credits available. Take advantage of this (extended) opportunity to claim your tax credit. The credit affords a tremendous benefit for our school at no cost to you! Click here to watch a short explainer video.
Please feel free to reach out to Lauren Stevenson with questions.
Why K-8?

While some schools boast of serving students pre-school through high school, Springmont is very proud of our Toddler through 8th-grade model – and for good reason! Students in a PreK-8 environment not only benefit in the present but are also well-positioned for the future. As the pinnacle of the Springmont experience, our Middle School offers students leadership opportunities often reserved for high schoolers in a K-12 setting - internships, student-led family conferences, and managing a class business and its finances are all part of Springmont’s 7th and 8th- year experience. Flexing one’s leadership muscles during these middle school years is important as personal identity is being formed. Springmont graduates take these experiences to their high schools and build upon them by starting clubs, introducing programs and following passions that are often rooted in their Middle School experiences.
Springmont graduates don’t just arrive in high school – they thrive! Brain research shows us that the early adolescent years are a time of great brain growth, including the development of a new ability called metacognition – the awareness of one’s own thought process. Metacognition is deliberately strengthened in Springmont’s Middle School program via curricular and co-curricular experiences that bring an increased cognizance of oneself. Students are led to ask themselves, How do I learn? What am I good at? Where do I need to put forth more effort? A high school student who has sought answers to questions like these is well-positioned to take full advantage of everything high school has to offer.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, a PreK-8 school like Springmont affords students the benefits of a small environment with the appropriate – and necessary – safety nets needed during the often-turbulent middle school years. Too often in a K-12 model, the social demands of high school trickle down to the middle school level, and students are engulfed in drama for which they are unprepared. By offering a low teacher-student ratio and close, long-term relationships with caring adults who truly understand and appreciate the young adolescent, Springmont offers students a superior level of academic, social and emotional support, both in times of triumph and challenge.
If you’d like to see for yourself, email me! I’d be happy to schedule a time for us to observe.

It's Time to Share Springmont!

Word-of-mouth referrals are the most trusted recommendation for today’s parents and are the #1 way new families learn about Springmont. Please share your family’s Springmont experience with neighbors, friends, colleagues and co-workers whenever you can, but especially this week as we celebrate Share Springmont!
• Like and follow Springmont on Facebook and Instagram and share our posts!
• Share your positive Springmont experience by reviewing Springmont on Google and Niche. Look for details in Thursday folders.
• Refer a family to Springmont! Invite a friend, neighbor or co-worker to come for a tour or to attend our Open House on January 26 at 2:00 p.m. Referral cards are available in the Front Office or you may simply email Director of Admission Andrea Restifo to let us know you are sending a family our way!
Toddler & Primary Parent Education Afternoon

All Toddler parents are invited to attend Let the Children Play on January 23, 4:15-5:45 in Remzije's classroom. As young scientists, budding engineers and experimental psychologists, Toddlers learn about the world through play. Toddler Teachers Zaiba Farooqui and Remzije Shala will discuss age-appropriate games and toys and what to look for when purchasing items for your child. They will also share effective words and positive discipline techniques that will allow for independent, creative play.
All Primary parents are invited to attend Building Your Child’s Brain Through Research-based Sensory Experiences on January 23, 4:15 - 5:45 in Dajar's classroom. Montessori classrooms have been described as gymnasiums for the mind, and nowhere is this more evident than in the Sensorial area of Primary classrooms. Modern brain scans verify how repeated sensory experiences stimulate interconnectivity and create higher-level thinking. As a child’s sensory center develops, academic concepts are more fluidly processed, and knowledge rapidly accumulates. Springmont’s Primary Teachers will discuss where each sense is stimulated and how the materials in the classroom are used to cultivate learning. They will also suggest activities that can be done at home to keep your child’s sensorial mind working and his/her brain activated.
No need to RSVP for these drop-in workshops; stay for a few minutes or the whole time. Demonstrations will begin every 15 minutes. Childcare will be available for Springmont Toddler & Primary students.
Questions? Email Toddler Primary Division Head Cara Friedline
Upper Elementary STEM Experience

Upper Elementary students, accompanied by a parent, are invited to participate in our hands-on STEM Experience, on January 27, 4:00-5:30 in the Middle School Math/Science classroom.
Middle School Science Teacher Thomson Chuites will discuss the role of decomposers (worms, fungi, microorganisms, etc.) and the variables that affect decomposition. Each family will make an individual worm bin to take home – worms and a “recipe” for maintenance included!
Middle School Math Teacher Marsha Fleming will lead students and parents in fun frog-flicking experiments! (Don’t worry, our frogs are plastic toys!) Learn to measure distance and create graphs illustrating your results. Whose frog will be the supreme jumper?
Don’t miss this fun way to learn more about STEM and Springmont’s Middle School experience. Kindly RSVP by Friday, January 24 by clicking here.
