Upper Elementary STEM Experience

Upper Elementary students, accompanied by a parent, are invited to participate in our hands-on STEM Experience, on January 27, 4:00-5:30 in the Middle School Math/Science classroom.

Middle School Science Teacher Thomson Chuites will discuss the role of decomposers (worms, fungi, microorganisms, etc.) and the variables that affect decomposition. Each family will make an individual worm bin to take home – worms and a “recipe” for maintenance included!

Middle School Math Teacher Marsha Fleming will lead students and parents in fun frog-flicking experiments! (Don’t worry, our frogs are plastic toys!) Learn to measure distance and create graphs illustrating your results. Whose frog will be the supreme jumper?

Don’t miss this Friday’s Bake Sale, the final one hosted by Nathalie’s Class this school year! Students have been baking industriously and will offer Lemon Brownies, Zucchini Bread, Muffins, Monkey Bread, and Garlic Parmesan Herb Loaves in the Pavilion at 3:00 pm! CASH only, please! Proceeds will be donated to an organization chosen by the students. What could be better than supporting entrepreneurship and philanthropy while enjoying a baked treat?!?

One of Montessori’s most amazing and versatile math materials is the Stamp Game, which helps children develop a more abstract understanding of the decimal system by building on the foundation laid with the Golden Beads. Primary and Elementary students use the Stamp Game to practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, and even division with multi-digit numbers while also memorizing math facts. Extraordinary!
