Taking PE to the Next Level

At the end of January, I had the privilege of attending the 35th annual Share the Wealth P.E. Conference hosted by the Georgia Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Recognized as one of the best K-12 practitioner conferences nationwide, each day I attended several classes presented by P.E. educators and vendors from across the country. Topics included everything from creative ways to incorporate fitness into skill-based lessons to new activities and games for large groups of children, but what makes this conference so exceptional are the opportunities teachers have to participate in the games and activities. Being engaged with other educators who have a shared passion for Health and P.E. reignited a spark inside of me, and I couldn’t wait to bring new ideas back to campus.
My favorite session, Taking PE Games to the Next Level, was designed to assist teachers in maximizing participation. As a P.E. teacher, it is important to me that every child is given numerous opportunities to succeed while learning basic fitness and sport-related skills. These games emphasize cooperation and teamwork and are meant to motivate and challenge students. At the end of the day, fun and fitness are the main goals.
I am so thankful Springmont provides teachers opportunities to continue learning through professional development. I was able to bring back so many fun new ideas and have already started to incorporate them into my Elementary & Middle School P.E. lessons!
