Springmont Updates COVID Policy based on March 1 CDC Guidance

As many of you know, for the last four years, Springmont has kept close tabs on the CDC's COVID-19 guidelines, continually updating the school's mitigation protocols and health policies to reflect its updated recommendations. Just before Spring Break, the CDC updated its guidelines. They now recommend that COVID be treated like other respiratory viruses, such as RSV and the flu, and endorse people resuming normal activity (including work and school) once symptoms have been improving for at least 24 hours and they have been fever free without medication for at least 24 hours. They continue to encourage enhanced air filtration and ask those who have been ill to help stop the spread by practicing enhanced hygiene and wearing a well-fitted mask.
Please note that all cases of COVID, as well as other communicable illnesses such as Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye), Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease (HFMD), Influenza/Flu, Measles, Pinworms, RSV, Strep, and Varicella (Chickenpox), should continue to be reported to feedback@springmont.com so that we can notify families of potential exposure.
As of today, March 18, Springmont will update the COVID-19 policies in our Key Information Parent Handbook to align with the CDC's updated guidelines.

Primary Open Classroom & Playdate - Mar 27!

Following rave reviews about our Primary Open Classroom & Playdate event in November, we are excited to offer parents/caregivers another chance to join their children in their Primary classrooms for a lesson or two! These opportunities not only further your understanding of Montessori but also allow your children to become the teachers as they share their work with you. Afterward, the Playground will be open for Primary families to enjoy time together. Your children love our play spaces; this is a time to share their joy for being at Springmont!
All Primary families are invited. Primary classrooms will be open Wednesday, March 27, 4:30 - 5:45 p.m. The Playground will be open 5:00-6:00, weather permitting.
There is no need to RSVP, but because on-campus parking is very limited and we have over 90 Primary students, we kindly ask that each family make every effort to bring just one vehicle to campus.
The Importance of Women's History Month

Women's History Month originated from a week-long celebration of women's contributions, sacrifices, and successes to United States history. The concept of this month was first created in 1978 by a group of Sonoma, California, educators who realized there was an absence of women's accomplishments and women role models in history books. They decided to take matters into their own hands by encouraging their students to do outside research about influential women in history. This led to a week-long celebration of women within the school district and eventually caught attention across the country.
In 1980, President Jimmy Carter declared the week of March 8th (International Women's Day) National Women's History Week. Within the same year, the same educators who started the celebration created an organization called the National Women's History Project, encouraging the increase in celebrating and honoring women. In 1987, The National Women's History Project petitioned Congress to expand the national celebration of women from a week to a month. Since then, Women's History Month has served as an annual opportunity to honor the achievements and struggles of women throughout history, fostering awareness and appreciation for their contributions in shaping the world we live in today.
To carry on this legacy, let's take this month to learn about influential women, their accomplishments, and their contributions to the society in which we currently live.
