Lower Elementary Self-Portraits on Display

March 30, 2026
By Julie Strickland

Guided by Springmont Art Teacher Lexi Paladino and inspired by American textile artist Bisa Butler, Lower Elementary students used oil pastels, watercolor, and yarn in bold colors and rich textures to create these amazing self-portraits now on display in the Front Office! In addition to developing creativity and fine motor skills, hands-on art exploration promotes self-expression and an appreciation for diverse cultures and perspectives.

Springmont believes that the Fine Arts are an integral part of a holistic education; therefore, students in Primary, Elementary, and Middle School receive regular lessons exploring a variety of art materials, techniques, and subject matter. Lessons are designed to promote creative expression, an understanding of art mediums and styles, and an avenue for understanding the people and cultures of the world. Students are encouraged to develop their artistic abilities while exploring a variety of artistic styles and art forms and to work with an array of creative disciplines that further build on their creative thinking and visual communication skills. The arts are an integral part of Springmont's school culture, enhancing community gatherings and fundraising auctions.

Make sure to check out these striking artworks the next time you are in the Front Office, or click here to see more on Facebook.
