Madagascar, the Upper Elementary Musical is in Production!

Kudos for creativity go to Upper Elementary students and Music Teacher Carissa Gibson! Each Monday and Friday afternoon, they have been working on a virtual performance of this year's Upper Elementary Musical, Madagascar! Rehearsals have been taking place on Zoom, audio recordings are being captured on Soundtrap, and students are submitting videos of themselves performing in costume. Supported by lessons from Art Teachers Theresa and Claire that gave detailed instructions to make masquerade-style masks and props and with technical assistance from IT Manager Kelcy Gatson who will combine all of this into one "movie", we can ALL look forward to watching the premier on Mother's Day! Congrats to the Upper Elementary Recycling Club! Participating for the first time and up against schools with thousands of students, they took 7th place out of 24 schools in the Georgia Glass Recycling Contest! Students enjoyed the awards ceremony at Zoo Atlanta on Friday and look forward to brainstorming ways to use the $400 prize money on campus. A big thank you to Upper Elementary Assistant Tori FitzSimons for guiding this initiative!

In celebration of Earth Day, students are turning off lights, planting seeds, making art from recycled materials, writing and sharing poems, conducting a campus clean-up, and researching environmental issues, and this morning, all classes gathered on the Lawn to sing “This Pretty Planet” by John Forster and Tom Chapin!
